Idar is a city and a municipality in Sabarkantha district in state of Gujarat. It is located about 30 km north of Himatnagar and 60 km from Gujarat's border with Rajasthan. It is known for the manufacture of handmade wooden toys, tiles, its temples and various beautiful architectural monuments, including Gadh (Palace) of Idar, Roothi Rani Ka Mahal, Jain Temples, Shiva & Vishnu Temples and the temple
where Raja Harishchandra got married, called as Harishchandra Ki Chouri.
Idar is at the southern end of the Aravalli Range. Many temples of Lord Shiva are found in these mountains. In history, victory over the Idar state was considered as a difficult task. So, a famous folk song was mostly sung in traditional marriages Áme Êderio Gadh Ĵitya re aanand bhayo (We are very happy that we have captured Idar fort).
Adjacent to this historic place of Gujarat, just about 10 kms away on SH 10, a village called Umedgadh, where an initiative have been taken by Serenity Foundation with a project called “Aashray” (old-age home), First step from Serenity towards social need with a feeling of harmony. “Aashray” (old-age home) is a place serving the elderly by providing them the loving place of
supporting in the silver years.
In simple words, objective of “Aashray” (old-age home) is to provide shelter, food, clothes, bed, medicines & other facilities to elderly men & women who are bereft of shelter and without support of near-relatives, irrespective of caste, religion or creed. The executive committee of the trust is empowered to make exceptions, if any, in respect of beneficiaries & the services being provided to
But in today’s busy and hectic digital world, some times even after having all the life line facilities like food, clothes, shelter etc. our respected elderly people are away from happiness due to loneliness. Basic need for a good life revolves around Love, Faith and Harmony. Taking this thought in principle, “Aashray” (old-age home) is an innovative step to provide shelter with love, food with faith and
medicine with harmony.
With an overall planning to accommodate around 100 people in total, initially “Aashray” (old- age home) will be constructed to ccommodate 10 rooms of twin sharing capacity (20 people) and dormitory arrangement for about 20 people.
A land of size 10,000 Sq.Ft. has been acquired and commencement declaration has been made for the first phase of the project on 10th March 2013 (Maha-Shivratri). A ground + 2 floors building is under planning to accommodate all above. For further expansions, adjacent 3 plots of the same size are kept reserved.
All these have been possible only with the support and the financial donations from the society and efforts of dedicated devoted social workers associated.
